Project Title: The Odyssey

Review of Progress and Achievement:
Throughout stage 1 and stage 2 my work has progressed my research has become deeper and has more varied than before. In addition, the research has been done throughout projects by the end of stage two. This has had more influence on my work. My initial drawing and experiments have also been a lot more fluid through the different way of working in stage 1 and 2. I chose the specialism textiles as I felt I worked best in the design project of stage one. In addition, I have a better understanding of the skills and techniques that can be used to create work. Choosing textiles has influenced my final project due to knowing the techniques I know as they work best for me, especially on a smaller scale. In the final project I hope to get a sense of improvement in my work. In the future I hope to set up my own business meaning I can live where there is inspiration that draws me.

Project Concept:
My aim in this project is to create a series of patterns based on the Greek myth The Odyssey – I hope these could be sold or developed for interiors. I will be researching further into the story and different chapters, characters, settings, and themes. The main problem for me will be how I communicate the images of the story correctly and how I represent the chaos. I will be looking into artists that I find useful to my work Moly Mahon, Sarah Young, Kit Young, Althea McNish, Mark Williams, and others when I find relevant artists throughout. I also plan to investigate Collections of work and Deign principles. Looking into current prints and patterns as well as current imagery from the story will be important. I plan to read the book in chapter summaries to focus on the key points. I am aware working from home can be limiting but for what I plan to do is manageable from home as much of my work will probably be done on photoshop from 2D mark making. My work could be developed due to my ideas changing throughout when I have done research into where I want the prints placed in society as I am unsure on where I want the prints to be shown. Methods I plan on using are stitch, print, photoshop development, layering, paint, and ink. These will allow me to portray everything I want to show but also show variety in my work like there is in the story especially the chaos in the story with different techniques.

How Evaluation will be utilized:
Evaluation will be utilized in my work through weekly evaluations and evaluative notes through my book to guide my work and help me decide what worked best and where I should improve. I will also complete an evaluation at the end of the project to summarize my overall thoughts. In addition, the mid project review will also help me to get feedback on my work and where I should be improving it.
This process of evaluation helps me develop and improve my work. The weekly evaluations help me track how I feel my weekly progress was but also evaluate what worked well overall. The notes throughout my book are more specific to work and techniques; this means I establish what techniques worked best for my work.
